Commander 2016 Deck Review and Upgrades: Invent Superiority – Breya, Etherium Shaper

Hello! Today, I’ll kick off a series where we look at the new decklists from Commander 2016, discuss what they do, and then change the decklist, trying to keep the complete deck under 50$, taking into consideration that the deck itself costs 35$ MSRP. If you are interested in purchasing any of these decks, you’ll be able to find them here: Commander 2016.

So, Breya’s deck is a artifact-themed deck, using Breya as a back up plan to shoot down troublesome creatures. The deck plays around a lot with the graveyard, using Breya as a sacrifice outlet to fuel a lot of the red artifact spells. This is one of the most synergistic decks in Commander 2016, and contains tons of staples for artifact-based decks. The deck is trying to go into two directions, which happens a lot with so many colors. There is a RW kind of aggressive side to the deck, with tons of equipment and aggressive RW creatures. There’s also a more synergistic, combo-heavy version of the deck using Breya as a sacrifice outlet or a way to deal with specific threats if needed.

Here’s the improved decklist: Improved Breya

What I did was to make the deck more combo-heavy and durdl-ey, and took out most of the equipment theme. This is simply a personal preference, since I dislike playing aggressive decks and enjoy playing slower decks and combo decks. I think it could go either way, but I prefer playing this version of the deck.

Breya is my favorite commander by far, what is yours? Comment below!
