A few things before we begin: I know I’m a day late, but happy Magic Origins Release! I personally think this is a great set! I didn’t preorder much, just the clash pack. Have fun! So now, let’s get into the review! This deck is focused on the spell mastery mechanic. It’s a black/red aggro, so it can easily get lots of creatures on quickly because of it’s high amount of two, three, and four drops.
Chandra’s Ignition is a good board wiper and is also awesome burn, prime targets for it in this deck are Kothophed himself, Cobblebrute (5/2), and possibly Revenant (Power and Toughness equal to amount of creature cards in your graveyard). The best thing about it is, the creature you targeted stays alive! Kothophed, Soul Hoarder is a 6/6 flier for 6 mana, and when an opponent’s permanent is put into the graveyard, you draw a card and lose a life. That’s good in the late game where you just need to find that card for your awesome combo, and don’t really care how much life you lose finding it. There’s plenty of removal and burn in the deck to trigger that effect consistently.
Revenant, a card I talked about a tiny bit earlier, is 5 mana, and it’s power and toughness are equal to the amount of creatures in your graveyard. In the late game, it can become a huge creature, and it also has flying so, that’s endgame for your opponent. Necromantic Summons is a sorcery that allows you to return a creature from any graveyard to your side of the battlefield, and if spell mastery triggers, it gets two +1/+1 counters also! This is great because it has limitless possibilities on what it can bring back, and is a great card to have around. Ravaging Blaze is XRR for deal X damage to target creature, but if spell mastery triggers, it also deals X damage to that creature’s controller. I just love adjustable burn, because it can be an early game 2 or 3 damage burn card, or you can burn down your opponent’s bombs.
Cards You Should Add
Risen Executioner is a good card to add, considering the amount of zombies in the deck. It not only pumps up other Zombies, but it also can be played from the graveyard, that is, at an extra cost.
Sidisi, Undead Tyrant is not only an aggressive attacker, but it also allows you to look for any card in your deck if you sacrifice any creature that you control.
Thanks for viewing! Hope you enjoyed!
